Let’s talk about writing characters today. Whenever I’m writing a character I try to get into their head and see things from their perspective, even the female characters. Secondly, I try to keep conversations sounding like actual teenagers are saying them. So many people just write kids as if they are small adults. This doesn’t give them a realistic – sounding voice, in my opinion. Kids use slang – look at “skibidi” nowadays if you don’t believe me. So I use a lot of slang, and it’s almost become a dialect of its own. Some people would recommend against doing this, but I disagree. I want them to be talking their own language in a way. It comes off as more real.
Then other thing I do when I’m writing my characters, and drawing them for that matter, is not over – sexualizing them. In the comic medium, you see this happen way too often. I know the main readers are boys, but there’s a reason for that, and it’s unfair representation of realistically dressed and spoken female characters. I aim to change that with my book. Like it or leave it, it was a conscious decision. ‘Til tomorrow.
