Handmade vs. Prefabbed Art

There’s something to be said for hand-making everything you draw. It may not be perfect, but when people see my work, they know it’s mine. I’ve been told this for years, and at a con in 2024, someone who bought my book in 1998 recognized my new work just from my style.

That’s what I’m careful with prefabbed brushes and materials in clip studio paint. It’s easy to use so many that your art starts feeling like an amalgamation of other peoples work.

My editor pointed this out when I started my book, and I agree. Thanks Bob!!! Now, if I see something I like, I recreate with brushes and materials I’ve created in my own style.
