What inspired you to do comics? No really. What made you go, I need to try one of the hardest jobs in the art world. People will mock you, like all the time, and sometimes it makes you chuckle. Then there are the fans that sing your praises from the rooftops. I’ve had both.
One of my favorite stories to tell people about why I do this happened at FallCon in Minnesota. A gentleman came up to me to talk to me that had my original ashcan from 1998. That still blows me away.
On the flip side of that though, I’ve also had a very young kid tell me he couldn’t believe that I’d put swearing into a comic book. He made his mom, who liked the book, not buy it due to the profanity. Too funny really.
Both are really the reason I chose to do this. I wanted to see people react. Whether it was a smile or offense. At least my work warranted a reaction.
